Hey everyone!
Today’s video talks about how to be successful at Welsh genealogy. I explain some of the assumptions about surnames, that many people hold, that make sense in other places, but turn into obstacles when you try to apply them to Welsh families throughout history. I then talk about how to side-step those obstacles altogether by outlining a core Welsh research strategy.
This video covers obstacles that most people encounter when they try to look through the Welsh records. But it’s called “American” struggles with Welsh Genealogy because I find that often US-based educators, unintentionally, portray US research methods as universal, when that’s just not the case. A lot of methods that work elsewhere, just don’t work for Welsh research. You need to use Welsh methods to be successful with Welsh research because otherwise, it looks impossible.

Enjoy and take care!

Just started following so this is the first of your videos I've watched. Even though I'm not specifically researching Welsh ancestors at this time (though I have them apparently), this is so fascinating to me and such a well-done video. I imagine the general point about cultural differences impacting how to do effective research is true for many different places. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
